Weekend highs: Rising ketamine levels in Australian wastewater

We are proud to support research that helps improve our understanding of emerging public health challenges.

A recent study led by researchers examined trends in ketamine use across Australia using wastewater-based epidemiology. By analysing samples from wastewater treatment plants across the country between 2020 and 2025, the research identified increasing levels of the ketamine metabolite norketamine, providing valuable insights into population-level drug trends and usage patterns. As part of the analytical workflow, the study utilised our UCT SPE cartridges for solid phase extraction during sample preparation prior to LC-MS/MS analysis.

Studies like this demonstrate the power of advanced analytical techniques to better understand community health trends and support evidence-based public health responses.
